9 Essential Oils for Hair Growth

  1. Carrot Seed Oil: In addition to being an excellent tonic oil for the skin, the rich golden oil of carrot seed is also highly nutritive to your hair. The essential oil is distilled mainly from the seed of wild carrots. But the oil is contained within the whole plant. Carrot seed is highly regarded for it’s nourishing, detoxifying and hormone regulating qualities.
  2. Cedarwood:  While primarily used for treating dandruff, is a great tonic oil for overall hair health. It has a great reputation for preventing hair loss and promoting the growth of new hair. It is one of the first oils recommended for a person with hair loss. Just a drop on a bald spot will promote rapid new hair growth.
  3. Chamomile: is an excellent calming and relaxing oil. It soothes inflammation and detoxes. These qualities make it a great addition to your hair regimen for increased hair growth.
  4. Clary sage: provides hormone balancing, relaxing qualities. It is beneficial for promoting hair growth, reducing hair loss, preventing dandruff and limiting oil buildup in hair by reducing sebum production.  Clary Sage is especially good oil for woman’s health – especially when it comes to reproductive health. It is regenerative to cells, hair and skin.
  5. Cypress: Is included in many hair formulas for increased circulation and capillary strength. It is important to have good blood circulation to the follicles for optimal hair growth. Many regimens for treating hair loss include Ginko and other herbs specifically for increasing circulation in the scalp.
  6. Helichrysum: Is regenerative to all tissues of the body. It’s regenerative qualities support scalp tissue as well as improving circulation to the scalp. This circulation promotes nutrient and blood flow to the hair follicles, improving their growth rate.
  7. Rosemary:  It is an excellent brain tonic as it refreshes and clears the mind. It is used to treat lack lustre hair, dandruff, oily skin and more. Rosemary oil is perfect for promoting hair growth because it increases circulation to the scalp while stimulating cellular metabolism. This increased circulation improves blood and nutrient flow to hair follicles and boosts growth significantly.
  8. Ylang ylang:  Is thought to reduce stress. Long used to increase the thickness of the hair shaft and to grow thicker hair. Ylang ylang can have a balancing effect on scalp oil production, and may help with split ends.

Dry Scalp Recipe
  1. 6 drops cedarwood.
  2. 4 drops lavender.
  3. 2 drops sandalwood or geranium.
  4. 2 drops patchouli.
  5. Application: Apply 1 teaspoon diluted 20:80 with a carrier oil onto the scalp and rub vigorously for 2-3 minutes. Leave on scalp for 60-90 minutes. Rinse. Or, Mix 2-4 drops of essential oils with 1-2 teaspoons of your no poo ingredients.

Hair Loss Prevention Recipe #1

  • 10 drops cedarwood
  • 10 drops sandalwood
  • 10 drops lavender
  • 8 drops rosemary
  • 1 drop juniper
  • Application:
    • Dilute 50:50 with a carrier oil and massage 1 teaspoon into scalp vigorously for 2-3 minutes. Rinse. OR
    • Dilute 5 drops of the essential oils with 20 drops of carrier oil. Massage into scalp. Leave overnight while you sleep. OR
    • Add 10 drops of the essential oils to 1 teaspoon coconut oil and massage into scalp. Leave overnight while you sleep. OR
    • Mix 2-4 drops of essential oils with 1-2 teaspoons of your no poo ingredients. Massage into scalp. Leave for 15 minutes. Rinse.

Dandruff Recipe

  • 5 drops lemon
  • 2 drops lavender
  • 2 drops peppermint
  • 1 drop rosemary
  • Application:
    • Dilute 50:50 with a carrier oil and massage 1 teaspoon into scalp vigorously for 2-3 minutes. Rinse. OR
    • Dilute 5 drops of the essential oils with 20 drops of carrier oil. Massage into scalp. Leave overnight while you sleep. OR
